All you should know about maintenance on your Jeep Wrangler for off road driving

If you own a Jeep Wrangler, you probably enjoy outdoor activities and –especially- off road driving. What could be more exciting than spending the day driving through rough and inhospitable terrain, or adventures of the beaten path?

This kind of activity is only possible with a vehicle that is specially designed for all-terrain driving, obviously. Although the Wrangler is perfectly capable of overcoming all of the obstacles you will put in its path, you still have to treat it with the utmost care so that it can always remain up to the task.

Here are a few tips and tricks regarding essential maintenance that should be done on your Wrangler and that will allow you to fully enjoy all of your off road adventures!

The Tires

Yes, of course, good tires are important for any vehicle; but in the case of an all-terrain vehicle, they are crucial. You must check regularly for cracks or fissures, or any object that could have perforated the tread, before you even leave your home. You should also always check on tire pressure, which should be optimal, including for the spare tire.

If you have to replace a tire but your spare tire is no good or can’t be used, you’ll find yourself in big trouble! Especially since chances are high that the tow truck won’t be able to make it to where you are.

The Battery

We are not talking here about checking if the battery can keep its charge –although this is very important too- but about making sure that it is solid. In fact, since off road driving usually implies loads of vibrations and rough handling, it is smart to check on your battery regularly, to ensure it is solidly fixed in place.

Fluid Levels

Windshield washer fluid, brake fluid or cooling fluid… not only do you want to make sure they are full, but also –in the case of fluids other than windshield washer fluid- that there are no leaks. Even though your Wrangler was built to protect its components from shocks and traumas caused by off road driving, better to be safe than sorry!

The Body

This too can help with the protection of components, as stated above: you will want to ensure that protection plates under the vehicle are fixed in place and still in good condition. In fact, if they are damaged, they will no longer protect components adequately from impacts and water, if you regularly drive over rivers or streams.

Finally, before any of your outdoor activities, make sure to have the following items with you:

  • A shovel, in case you get stuck
  • Traction Aids
  • Water
  • A first aid kit
  • Etc.
