Do you enjoy outdoor activities and are looking for a vehicle that can take you to wherever you want to go? You will be spoilt for choice amongst all of the different SUVs and small trucks available on the market.

However, Jeep and RAM models provide you with all of the strength and off road capacities you need for your camping adventures or simply to enjoy the great outdoors.

Here is a sneak peek of what RAM and Jeep vehicles have to offer!

Why choose a Jeep model for camping and outdoor adventures?

Jeep is known for its vehicles with remarkable off road skills; and this is even truer when it comes to the Wrangler and Gladiator models, who can get from point A to B without even giving a second thought to what comes in between.

Wrangler

The ideal vehicle for off road driving amateurs, for decades now, the Wrangler has been offering unparalleled skills and strength, along with features that are geared towards driving over different types of terrain. Its emblematic square-shaped silhouette and round headlights make it an easily recognizable SUV wherever it goes; moreover, you will also have the option of removing the doors and roof so that you can take full advantage of your off road adventures in the great outdoors.

Available in 4- or 5- door trims, the Wrangler is equipped with a standard offered 3.6 L V6 engine with 285 horsepower; a 2.0 L 4- cylinder engine with 270 horsepower is also offered as an option (but as standard equipment on the Sahara trim). As for the Rubicon 392, it comes with a 6.4 L V8 with 470 horsepower, while the 4xe versions come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain with 375 horsepower and provides you with a 35 kilometer range without a single drop of fuel.

The Jeep Wrangler also offers exceptional off road skills:

  • Fording depth of up to 32.5- inches (82.6- cm)
  • High ground clearance
  • A 4.88 to 1 gear ratio with an available 100:1 crawl ratio –which is at the top of its category
  • Trail Rated certified
  • Front and rear towing hooks
  • Reinforced Dana 44 axles
  • Different 4x4 systems: Command-Trac, Selec-Trac and Rock-Trac, depending on model
  • Etc.

Finally, depending on selected model, you will be able to tow between 2,000 and 3,500 pounds and have access to generous cargo space.

Jeep Gladiator

The only Jeep truck –and only open-concept truck in the industry- the Gladiator can tackle any adventures off the beaten path, thanks to its Trail Rated certification. Moreover, if you opt for the Mojave trim, you will have access to the first ever truck to be Desert Rated as well, making it the perfect ally when it comes to sand dunes and difficult sand covered trails.

Two powertrains are also offered: a 3.5 L V6 with 285 horsepower or a 3.0 L turbodiesel V6 with 260 horsepower and that will allow you to tow up to 6,500 pounds. Moreover, the fuel powertrain offers the highest payload and towing capacity for its category, which are 1,710 and 7,700 pounds respectively.

The Gladiator also offers power locking front and rear differentials (standard offered on the Rubicon), that allow for outstanding maneuverability thanks to a very powerful transmission and all-wheel drive system. As for the rear axle, it can even be locked in a 4HI position if you want to drive at higher speeds or over sand dunes.

Other Jeep SUVs

Even if the two abovementioned vehicles are the cream of the crop when it comes to off road driving, let’s not forget that the rest of the Jeep family –like the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L, Cherokee, Compass and Renegade- also offer remarkable 4x4 skills. Moreover, their generous amount of cargo space, their towing capacity that ranks at the top of their category –for most of the models-, along with the 3- rows of seats they offer (which is the case of the Grand Cherokee L) make them the perfect SUVs for your outdoor adventures or family camping trips!
